SMC unveils new toll road, railway proposals for P740-B Airport City

Conglomerate San Miguel Corp. (SMC) wants its P740-billion airport city in Bulacan province to become a gateway to the world. But first, it would need world-class infrastructure support to make it accessible from Metro Manila and other parts of the country.

SMC unveiled plans to link the airport via major toll roads and railways in Luzon.

These include the 8-kilometer “airport toll road” that will run from the North Luzon Expressway and also link to its 18-km Skyway Stage 3, which is opening next month.

SMC is building the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 7 from Quezon City to Bulacan.

In addition, it is proposing the MRT 7 Katipunan spur, MRT 7 Airport Expressway-North Line, MRT 7 Airport Expressway-West Line, MRT 7 Extension Project, and MRT 7 Airport Expressway Southeast Line.

SMC claims to have won original proponent status for these projects, giving it a major advantage in the eventual competitive challenge.

“These projects make up the massive infrastructure network that will not only make the airport easily accessible from Metro Manila and various points of Luzon, but will also further unlock the economic potential of many of our provinces,” SMC president Ramon Ang said in the statement.

“This is part of our commitment to invest more in our country and help our government and our people build back better,” he added.

SMC earlier announced its Bulacan Airport City would break ground before the end of the year instead of October 2020.
